Artists hand paint a variety of vegetables and fruits on real slate that has been hand cut in our New Hampshire studio. The slate is mounted to a wooden stake, for a primitive and rustic finished look. Stakes feature a pointed end, for easy insertion into the ground.Artichoke and lettering are hand painted with liquid chalk markers. Waterproof ink provides a highly opaque coverage. Artwork is then sprayed with a protective overcoat, adding to the longevity of the piece through the elements. Tiles are cut to 4 by 4 inch squares using a hand cutter, creating a natural chamfered edge. Wooden stakes are sourced from a sustainable forest in Canada and MCA treated to help prevent rot and decay. The pieces are bonded together using an industrial adhesive, ensuring a lasting bond.Because each piece is selected, hand cut, and painted, slate and artwork will feature natural flaws and beauty.
